Alister
studied dentistry at the University of Birmingham and qualified
in 1992. After completing a year working in general dental practice
in Cardiff, he joined the department of Oral and Maxillofacial
surgery in Merthyr Tydfil hospital. He subsequently increased
his experience further with training positions in Morriston
hospital, Swansea and Cardiff dental school respectively. In
1996 he successfully passed the Fellowship in Dental Surgery
examination awarded by the Royal College of Surgeons of England.
Alister
then moved down to the West Country where he worked in Musgrove
Park Hospital, Taunton, followed by time spent in general dental
practices in Bridgewater, Somerset and Seaton in Devon.
In
2000, he started his postgraduate orthodontic training in Cardiff
with a regional attachment in Newport. He was awarded the Master
of Science in Orthodontics degree (University of Cardiff) in
2004 and the Membership in Orthodontics from the Royal College
of Surgeons of Edinburgh in the same year.
